Gemini Gems — Set Up a Free Quiz Generator in 3 Minutes

Create a custom Gem that generates quiz questions, worksheets, and lesson materials with just a topic input.

What is Gemini Gems?

Gemini Gems is Google's custom AI assistant feature. You create a "Quiz Gem" once, and every time you ask it to generate questions, it follows your preset format, language, and difficulty level — no need to rewrite prompts every time.

Setup (3 minutes)

Step 1: Open Gemini

Go to gemini.google.com and sign in with your Google account (school Gmail works).

Step 2: Create a Gem

Click "Gem Manager" in the left menu → "Create Gem".

Step 3: Set the Prompt

Paste the following:

You are a Hong Kong primary/secondary school teacher.
Generate quiz questions based on the following:

1. Subject: [SUBJECT]
2. Grade: [GRADE]
3. Topic: [TOPIC]
4. Question type: Multiple Choice / Fill-in-the-blank / Short Answer
5. Number of questions: 10
6. Language: English
7. Include answers with brief explanations

Step 4: Save

Name it "Quiz Generator" and save.

Step 5: Use It

Open Gemini → Select your Gem → Type "F.2 photosynthesis, 10 MC questions" → Done.

Tips for Teachers

• Save time: What used to take 30 minutes now takes 3. Always review generated questions for accuracy.
• Differentiate: Ask the same Gem to generate "basic" and "advanced" versions for mixed-ability classes.
• Create multiple Gems: One for MC questions, one for short-answer, one for vocabulary quizzes.

Important Notes

• Always review: AI can make mistakes, especially in math — check answers before giving to students.
• Add your own: Mix in a few questions you wrote yourself to add your personal teaching style.
• Privacy: Do not enter student personal data (names, class numbers, ID numbers) into Gemini.
